Symbiotics MFLO II Opportunity International

The Symbiotics Microfinance Loan Obligation (MFLO) Opportunity Eastern Europe offers medium term refinancing for microfinance institutions (MFIs) from the Opportunity International network at local market rates in Euros. The loan obligation's three-layered structure allows the fund to mobilize a maximum of private capital on the senior level, offers attractive risk adjusted returns to junior lenders as well as to the quasi-equity investors in the first loss tranches. Symbiotics has disbursed a total of USD 16.5 million in loans to 7 selected MFIs of the Opportunity International Eastern European Network in Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Russia and Serbia. All of Opportunity’s MFIs are regulated and registered as non-bank financial institutions and microfinance banks respectively.

Symbiotics Securities SA acts as Structuring Advisor and Servicer to the Issuer. Symbiotics is a professional services company which offers innovative investment intermediation services to microfinance investors and fund managers. The company is based in Geneva, and was established in 2005 by ex-staff and managers from BlueOrchard Finance SA and Infobahn SA, a microfinance investment advisory services firm and a microfinance information technology services firm respectively.

SIFEM invested EUR 2.2 million into Junior Notes and First Loss Notes on behalf of SECO.
