Altra Private Equity Fund I, L.P. (APEF I) is a generalist private equity fund focusing on mid-market companies in the Andean region (Colombia and Peru), with opportunistic investments in Central America. SIFEM joined CDC and FMO, as well as a majority of local institutional investors, in the final closing of APEF I, which took place on March 31, 2009. SIFEM invested USD 8.0 million on behalf of SECO.
APEF I targets companies with proven high value-added business models and substantial value creation potential resulting from operational optimization, accelerated growth, and/or industry consolidation processes, which have the potential to reach a leadership position in specific business niches. APEF I invests in medium-sized companies with revenues between USD 25.0 - 75.0 million, in particular companies in transition from medium to large size that require resources for the expansion of their product offering, and enterprises seeking to expand locally and regionally. APEF I also invests in family owned companies looking for a transition to a professional and independent management, and in businesses aiming to implement world-class practices and standards.
APEF I is managed by Altra Investments Inc, which was founded by two Colombian partners in 2004, and initially offered opportunistic private equity investments in the Andean region to a local investor base. After several successful investments, the two partners decided to take a third partner on board in Peru and launch their first dedicated private equity fund. Altra Investments has offices in both Bogota and Lima.
