31.10.2010 - SIFEM wins G-20 SME Finance Challenge more
The Group of Twenty has given Swiss organizations responsAbility and SIFEM an award for their innovative approach to small and medium enterprise (SME) financing through rABOP (responsAbility BOP SCA SICAR). The award recognizes the investment solution presented by responsAbility and SIFEM as one of the best viable initiatives for unlocking financing for small and medium-sized companies in developing countries.
The G-20 SME Finance Challenge was launched with the aim of finding the best approaches to financing SMEs in developing economies. The fourteen most sustainable and scalable solutions were chosen from a field of more than 300 entrants representing 75 countries. These solutions will receive implementation support from the G-20. The idea is that they will help overcome barriers to funding, facilitate growth, and create jobs in the developing world.
Small and medium-sized enterprises make a significant contribution to development and are recognized as a key driver of economic growth. Frequently, however, they experience difficulties when it comes to raising long term capital to finance their expansion. This is precisely where the investment solution developed by responsAbility and SIFEM plays a catalyzing role, by providing innovative SMEs in developing countries access to much-needed capital. At the same time, the solution enables qualified institutional and private investors to tap into the growth potential of these businesses.
